MV Substations, MV Switchrooms & MV Transformer Rooms, Design, Development, Construction & Installation
We design, develop, project manage and construct MV Substations, MV Switchrooms and MV Transformers rooms for clients, and install their own MV Transformers. This enables our clients to take an MV electrical supply of 10kV from the ESB distribution network at a cheaper rate of electricity. Paying for an ESB MV Transformer service is then no longer required.
Previously, these clients would have been connected to a standard industrial electrical supply of 400v, which is considered Low Voltage. When they were on the LV supply of 400v, the ESB would have to supply the Transformer to convert the 10kV MV supply down to the nominal 400v LV supply. This is the reason that clients now move to a cheaper rate of electricity, as they are now supplying and maintaining more of the electrical infrastructure themselves.
As a rule of thumb, a 1.5 cent - 2 cent reduction per kWh is achieved by changing from the DG6 Tariff to the DG7 Tariff, when switching from LV to MV. Therefore, Industrial Consumers can make huge savings on electricity by switching. Typically, it's advisable to make the switch if your Maximum Import Capacity (MIC) is above 500kVA. In fact, it is at this level that the ESB themselves will advise to do so.
However, the same savings are still to be made below 500kVa. A cost analysis of the design, installation and upgrade works would need to be undertaken, to determine if the savings would have a sufficient payback in an acceptable time-frame.
Return on investment can be up to and in excess of 6 figures per annum.
